Officer Johnson

Sergeant Derek Johnson  Draper Police Department, Utah
End of Watch: Sunday, September 1, 2013

Sergeant Derek Johnson | Draper Police Department, Utah

Anna, Jim and I had the opportunity of getting to know Officer Johnson via Peer Court. We were grief stricken by this tragic news. Sergeant Derek Johnson was shot and killed when he stopped to check on a vehicle parked on the side of South Fort Street shortly before 6:00 am. We were awakened that morning by hearing a helicopter flying low over our home. After receiving many texts, phone calls and watching the local news we were informed that we were to stay in our home and that church had been cancelled.

Investigators determined that a man and woman had been in an accident at 900 East and 13800 South, striking fixed objects, and kept going until they came to a stop at 13200 S. Fort St., where Johnson came across them. As he drove up, Johnson, 32, was "ambushed" by the man in a silver Volvo, who also shot the 34-year-old woman with him. After shooting at Johnson, the man turned the gun on himself. The man and woman survived the gun shots and have been sentenced to jail.

The above pictures are of Kirsten helping put up flags the day before the funeral. On the day of, starting in Draper, Flags and people lined the entire procession.

After talking her off a ledge for about 30 minutes this was sent this summer via text from Kirsten on her first night at Retreat for Girls and feeling very homesick:

I am sad

 Our Response:

 We're "sadder"

We were only hoping it would cheer her up.
It did.
She stayed
And she had the best week ever!

Hair

This is how they insist that I do their hair.
Tight pony tail with a single curl on the side.
It's "sort of " a nod to the Hasidic Jew,
a very cute 4 year old and 6 year old Jew at that.

cavities

This is what post sedation looks like on a 4 year old - she had "a few" cavities.

And by "A Few" I mean 8.

That's right, 8.

 I don't get it either.

We are very diligent when it comes to feeding her candy, cakes, cookies, soda pop and any other sugary treat you can imagine all without the slightest concern for oral care. We in no way believe in brushing much less flossing.
Why would we? Those baby teeth are eventually going to come out.

Right?!

I will say that the "princess juice" they gave her sure worked fast and took a while to wear off.  It was a blissful afternoon in the Hall house.
